Reflections on the Peru Trip

Juan has been carried by his father since he contracted polio almost 30 years ago. He is a godly man who loves Jesus and studies the Bible until 1 or 2 a.m.

Juan is in college studies and hopes to graduate in a year with a computer major.

He was told by a physical therapist that he was no good and had no hope. We told him there was hope and showed him how to make a sliding board for transfers from bed/chair to wheelchair, how to stretch his legs, and gave him lateral trunk supports on the wheelchair for his scoliosis so he can breathe easier. Juan was very excited to receive his wheelchair adapted especially for him, but nothing compared to the look of joy on his face when he was given the Word of God. Wow! How in love with Jesus am I?

But God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. II Timothy 1:7

Dalita, a 14 year old girl who couldn't speak, blessed my heart. Her smile was radiant with love and thankfulness. She would clap twice for yes and shake her finger sideways for no. Her sister said she is very helpful around the house with the meal preparations and clean up, making the bed, and cleaning up around the house. As you may see in this picture, there is famine and uncertainty, along with trusting and joy.

Dalita's sister was taking care of the house while their dad was taken to Lima for medical assistance. She had a baby and young child to feed and Dalita to take care of while their parents were away. Dalita's sister accepted Christ into her heart while we were on the home visit. Praise the Lord! Please pray for Dalita's family.

True joy is not the absence of pain and suffering,

but it is from being in the presence of God.
